Ash Wednesday is the day that inaugurates the Lenten Season. It is a designated time for new beginnings in the faith, a time for returning to the Lord. On this day, we are to recall our sinful human nature and seek the Lord for a renewed spirit. This is a time for putting aside the sins and failures of the past in order to lay hold of who we are yet to become by the grace of God.

Love Feast
The Christian Recorder writes that "Early AME Churches had...love feasts prior to Communion. Historically, the love feast was celebrated with bread and water. The Bread was symbolic of our goodwill toward one another and water was symbolic of our desire for purification.
